President Bush Honors Kenneth Lay in Church/Bank Service

THE PRESIDENT: Thank you, all. Thank you. Now I understand -- now I understand why an old bank -- (laughter and applause) -- can become a center of love and compassion and fire. (Applause.) I am honored, Laura and I are honored that you would invite us and our friends, the Governor and the First Lady and the Lieutenant Governor and his lovely wife, to come and celebrate a great American.
We're honored to be in the midst of a social entrepreneur -- (applause) -- whose guidebook for entrepreneurship to help others is the Bible. (Applause.) I want to thank the members of the church/bank, the leaders of the church/bank and those who are in charge of the ministries of the church/bank for sharing with us the good works of this church/bank
It is fitting that we honor Kenneth Lay in a combination church and bank. Because, Gerald, I believe, like you, that the power of his words, the clarity of his vision, the courage of his leadership occurred because he put his faith in the Almighty Dollar. (Applause.)
It is fitting that we honor the life of a great American in a church/bank who derived his inspiration from the church and put his profit in a bank. It is fitting that we honor this great American in a church/bank because, out of the church/bank comes the notion of equality and justice and profit that has made our country grreat. (Applause.) And even though progress has been made, Pastor-President -- even though progress has been made, there is more to do. There are still people in our society who have not bought into our free-capitalistic-spiritual vision. There is still prejudice holding people back. There is still a school system that doesn't elevate every child so they can learn through an intersection of church, state, and sound banking principles. (Applause.) There is still a need for us to hear the words of Kenneth Lay, to make sure the hope of America extends its reach into every neighborhood across this land
So it's fitting we're here in a church/bank that has got ministries aimed at healing those who hurt, and fighting addiction and promoting love and families. It is fitting we meet here in a church/bank because in this society, we must understand government could help, government could write checks -- but it should not put money in people's pockets or dollars and cents in people's lives. The people must do that by themselves, the people must affirm their own actions, no matter what they have faced in their history. (Applause.)
And so as we remember the dream of Kenneth Lay and remember his clear vision for a society that's equal and a society full of justice, this society must remember the power of faith in our almighty dollar. This government of yours must welcome faith in the almighty dollar, not discriminate faith in the almighty dollar, as we deal with the future of this great country. (Applause.)
And so, ladies and gentlemen, thank you for having Laura and me. Thank you for allowing us to worship the dollar with you. Thank you for opening up your pocketbooks to my glorious word. May God bless you all. May God bless the legacy of Kenneth Lay. And may God bless all Americans on this special day. Thank you, Pastor-President. (Applause.) --White House, 01.20.03

After a long hot August you are back in "that other compound" (on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, DC). After long-hot weeks of relentless pursuit of money you are now officially America's Fundraiser-In-Chief. In the first 8 months of this year you raised no less than $110 million. Thanks to your hard work the election campaigns of your good friends gubernatorial candidate Steve Largent and Senator James Inhofe in Oklahoma are now well funded. In Arkansas your $500-a plate dinner sure helped Senator Tim Hutchinson. Now, more than ever, these Operatives will help to advance your agenda of unabashed, unashamed and unlimited Compassionate Conservatism! This election season is crucial for that ultimate goal of Compassionate Conservatism: the Monolithic Unity of the Executive and U.S. Congress. We keep the power by redefining elections on our terms, right?
While all of 'Merica enjoyed those long hot summer days, Yurep, China and Korea suffered torrential rains and massive flooding. Never before summer was this bad in Yurep. Your Global Temperature Enhancement Scheme worked magnificently. Let this be a lesson for those Yurpeans: stop whining about Global Warming and that Kyoto Protocol. Or else! Else, more torrential Acts of God will come down on you!! This Compassionate Conservative Government of America doesn't give a damn about the climate changes worldwide. Any climate that favors 'Merican business interests is good climate, right? Sure you don't want to have any part of that United Nations Sustainable Development Conspiracy in Johannesburg, South Africa. The only thing Compassionate Conservatives will sustain is unabashed, unashamed and unlimited bidness, right?
Remember how Enron worked with the government of Maharashstra in India to build the Dobhal Power Plant? Not only in India, Government officials got educated about the Supreme Power of Enron. From 1994 on Enron paid Bambang Trihatmodjo, the son of President Suharto, $25 million to lay groundwork for a natural gas-fired plant in Pasuruan on Java and a second plant in East Kalimantan. After the Compassionate Conservative Government of Indonesia was ousted the plans fell through, but Enron managed to get its monies back from the World Bank Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency. Back in 'Merica Enron got into the action of the November 2001 space energy conference of the Department of Commerce. In February 2001 Kenny boy Lay had already talked to Don Evan's, your Secretary of Commerce, and on September 7, Bruce Mehlman, the Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy, wrote a memo to Ken on a planned workshop for "Market Opportunities in Space: The Near Term Roadmap". To make sure that this workshop stayed in tune with Dick Cheney's Energy Policy Plans, no word on solar energy in outer space should be allowed. Therefore the Department of Commerce invited such illustrious experts as James Cameron, the producer and director of "Alien", and Kenny boy Lay. Ken doesn't know a damn thing about solar energy from space. So, he sure is the kind of expert needed to bring an unbiased business perspective to the workshop. That workshop was such a magnificent example of the Confluence of Government Policies and Bidnes Interests: that ultimate goal of Compassionate Conservatism!
This past August we were waiting for another Proof of the Confluence of Government and Bidnes Interests: the World Wide War against Turrorists and Turrorism! The month of August has always been a good month for the War against Turrorism and Turrorists. Take those magnificent months of August of 1914 and 1939. In August 1914 the combined Austrian and German Armies went into action against Turrorism in Yurep, and on August 31, 1939 the German President finally allowed his Army to retaliate against acts of Turrorism in Gleiwice on the German-Polish border. This was part of another Infinite Battle in the Enduring War against Turrorism waged by the Compassionate Conservative Government of Germany. In 1933, immediately after Compassionate Conservatives had taken over and had established the Third Empire of Germany, the country had to be defended against Turrorists and Turrorism. So, the Compassionate Conservatives of Germany passed a Law to Protect the Empire and the People. That law was very much in the vein of your USA PATRIOT Act of 2001. Under that law enemies of Compassionate Conservatism were put away in camps. For years, Compassionate Conservatives were engaged in a relentless, unlimited war against turrorists and turrorism; millions of turrorists were identified, rounded up and put into camps. That may also happen in the near future in our beloved country, according to one of your spokesmen, right?
My neighbor told me that neither Dick Cheney, nor gentlemen like Jeb Bush, John Ashcroft, Paul Wolfowitz, Richard Perle, Spencer Abraham, Don Evans, Karl Rove, Andrew Card, Tom DeLay, Trent Lott, Bob Barr, Mitch McConnell, Dick Armey, Phil Gramm, Antonin Scalia, Clarence Thomas, Newt Gingrich, Mark Racicot, Rudy Guliani, Charlton Heston, Wayne LaPierre, Bill Bennett, Jerry Falwell, George Will, Bill O'Reilly, Tony Snow, Britt Hume, Sean Hannity have ever suffered on a real battlefield. After Dick Cheney's August 26 speech we can rest assured: the Second Coming of the Gulf War as part of your World Wide War for the Enduring Battle Against Turrorism and Turrorists is upon us, and all these illustrious gentlemen will soon see action!!
Iraq is such a very special case. During the 1990ties Dick Cheney's Halliburton had invested $73 million in Iraq. Though the U.N. weapons inspectors found in 1998 that the Weapons of Mass Destruction of Iraq were to 95% destroyed, Saddam Hussein still didn't allow Halliburton unlimited access to the oilfields of Iraq. That sure calls for a regime-change in Iraq, right? What better way of promoting a regime-change than an Enduring Battle for the Infinite World Wide War Against Turrorism?
My neighbor told me that such a World Wide War would be at odds with the United Nations Charter. Article 1, Section 4 says: "All members shall refrain in their international relations from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state." Can you believe that?? Would the war in VietNam and Cambodia, the regime-change to establish Compassionate Conservatives like General Suharto in Indonesia, Shah Reza Pahlevi in Iran, Augusto Pinochet in Chile, Anastasio Somoza in Nicaragua, or even your Daddy's Gulf War I, and your own War for Pipeline-istan in Afghanistan last year ever have been possible if compassionate conservatives would have refrained from any threat or use of violence?? Of course not; the threat or use of violence is second nature to compassionate conservatives, like the secondary virginity you received on July 7, 1986, when you became a Born Again Christian. Is killing of hundreds of thousands of innocent and unarmed civilians by their own government like in Guatemala, Cambodia, Vietnam, Rwanda, or Turkey a problem for compassionate conservatives? Of course not, we compassionate conservatives were the first to use Weapons of Mass Compassion against innocent and unarmed civilians, like on August 6, 1945 in Hiroshima and on August 9, 1945 in Nagasaki, or the carpet bombing of North Vietnam during Christmas 1972. There are 5 million civilians in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq: a magnificent target for our Weapons of Mass Compassion, right?
Isn't the threat and use of violence our Compassionate Duty as Evangelical Christians? Take the uprising of April 11, 2002 in Venezuela. That country delivers far more oil to the US than Saddam's Iraq ever will do. So, a little threat of violence to keep Venezuela in line is in order, right? Through the National Endowment for Democracy, which was founded in 1983 under the leadership of Ronnie Reagan, your Government spent $877,435 in the year 2001 to support an uprising against, Hugo Chavez, the elected president of Venezuela. Also the International Republican Institute came into the act with $339,998, and the AFL-CIO supported the Confederation of Venezuelan Workers against president Hugo Chavez. Those investments came to fruition with the April 11, 2002 uprising under the leadership of Pedro Carmona. We keep the oil by defining democracy on our terms, right?
Remember those feel-good years under the Clinton presidency? Thanks to your compassionate conservative leadership that feel-good era is now over and out. Now our proud country experiences the hardcore, unabashed, unashamed, unlimited Spirit of Suffering. After those coal miners in Pennsylvania were rescued you spoke those sweet, sweet words of compassionate conservatism: "this country comes together in a spirit of suffering". Already on September 11, 2001 this country experienced a lot of suffering. Due to poor and outdated equipment many firefighters died in the Twin Towers in New York. That poor equipment added insult to injury. Never before so many firefighters died in one incident. To make sure that we will have a lot more opportunity to experience that Spirit of Suffering you cut spending for mine safety, right? Workers of 'Merica stop whining about health and safety at your workplace: From now on, it is the Spirit of Suffering that counts!!
My motto for the weeks to come: May the Spirit of Suffering flood the whole world!!
